James D. Benjamin, 79, of Taylor, PA died Monday in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger/CMC in Scranton following an illness.

Born May 25, 1935 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Elmer L. and Matilda (Wheeler) Benjamin. He was a graduate of Marywood School of Nursing. He was a self employed contractor and handyman. He had a great love for music and dancing.

He is survived by his three daughters: Cecilia Wilde of Carbondale, PA, Brenda Benjamin of Forest City, PA, and Debra London of Taylor, PA; one son: Wayne Benjamin of Old Forge, PA; (6) grandchildren: Carina Sokolov, James London, John Jenisky Jr., Brianna Krzan, Paul Krzan Jr. and Brandon Eddy; and (4) great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his companion Ceil Smith, and his son James D. Benjamin Jr.; (3) brothers: Robert, Seymore and Charles; and (3) sisters: Helen, Hazel and Gertrude.

Graveside services will be conducted:

Joan A. Weiner, 78, of Pocono Lake, PA, died Tuesday afternoon in the VNA Hospice House in East Stroudsburg, PA following an illness. She was the widow of James C. Weiner Sr. who died May 7, 2011.

Born December 23, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, she is the daughter of the late Stanley and Stephanie (Kona) Lechtanski. Prior to moving to the Pocono Lake in 1988, Joan was employed by the Vita Fish Company, and also the New York Daily News in the billing department.

Surviving are her sons: James C. Weiner Jr. and wife Roberta of Etters, PA, Thomas C. Weiner and wife Sharon of Central Islip, NY; (1) sister: Dorothy Francis and husband Thomas of Hudson, FL; and (6) grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her sons Michael Weiner and Edward Weiner.

Herbert N. Koss, 85 , a resident of Covington Twp. died Monday, June 16th at his home. He and his wife Betty Doran Koss would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on July 2nd.

Born in Madison Twp,.PA, he is the son of the late Nicholas and Lucina (Beavers) Koss. He was a graduate of Moscow High School, class of 1947. He was an Army veteran joining in 1948, and after being discharged in 1950, he was recalled in the Korean War after two months.

Herb worked with his father in the construction business. He was an accomplished mason and wood worker. He built three houses, including a log home, and finally settled in their brick home in Covington Township.

Herb loved the outdoors, especially hunting. He loved gardening, from planting seeds in the winter to picking and canning in the fall. He was a very good cook, and could bake a pie as good as his mother. Herb was an antique car enthusiast, and drove every year in the Covington Township Fire Company parade. He participated in many car shows.

Herb was a member of the Daleville United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are (2) sisters: Clara Stubbs and husband William of Madison Twp.,PA Anna M. Algar of Reeders, PA; nieces: Lisa Raxter of Arizona, Carol Mikesic of Collegeville, PA; and a nephew David Stubbs of Madison Twp.

He was preceded in death by an infant sister Dorothy Koss; and grandparents Jacob & Mary Beavers, and John and Fannie Koss.

Gomer C. Edwards, 73, of Spring Brook Township, PA died Wednesday afternoon in St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Center in Elmhurst Twp. after a long illness. His wife is the former Loretta T. Hines. The couple were married February 27th, 1960.

Born October 1, 1940 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of Florence Saxe and the late Gomer Edwards. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.

Prior to his retirement, He was owner and operator of Edwards TV.

Gomer was known for his wry sense of humor, and his gift for making people laugh. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter Theresa M. Gregorsky and husband Daniel of Spring Brook Twp.; (3) sons: Allen M. Edwards and wife Rachele of Scranton, PA, Gomer M. Francis A. Seng Sr., 82, of Covington Twp. died Wednesday at Regional Hospital in Scranton. His wife of 61 years is Elvira “Sis” Seng.

He was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed all aspects of fishing. He will be dearly missed by his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are (3) daughters: Patti Seng, Jackie Held, and Peggy Giannetto and husband Tom; his daughter-In-law: Beverly Jantzi; (8) grandchildren; and (6) great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Francis Seng Jr., his sister Tina and brother Charles.

Private services will be conducted by his family.

Elaine J. Neureuter, 65, of Dalton died Wednesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton after a lengthy illness.

Born July 24, 1948, in Taylor, daughter of the late Edward and Sophie Maszeroski Maopolski, she was a graduate of Northeast High School and Luzerne County Community College. Before her retirement, she was employed by the Scranton School District as a vocational commercial art teacher. Elaine was an avid skier, and a member of the Elk Mountain Ski Patrol for many years.

Elaine’s family would like to extend thanks to her caregivers Patti Duguay and Jesse Seard and the late Dennis Van Fleet for their wonderful and loving care.

Surviving are her sister, Patricia P. Leppert and husband, Rodger, Falls Twp.; brother, Edward Maopolski, Duryea; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul D. Maopolski, on Feb. 11.

George Sholtis Jr., 60, of Mount Laurel, NJ, and formerly of Voorhees, NJ died Thursday at his home following a brief illness.

Born August 24, 1953 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of George Sholtis Sr. of Dalton, PA and the late Eleanor Sholtis.

George was raised in Elmhurst, PA, and was a 1971 graduate of Scranton Prep, and a 1975 graduate of the University of Scranton. He received a Masters in Business from the University of Utah.

George was a US army veteran serving active duty from October 1975 until October 1979 He obtained the rank of captain and served with the Army Reserves until 1989.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a systems Manager at Lockheed Martin for 27 years. He was previously employed as a systems specialist at Air Products of Allentown, PA.

George followed St. Ignatius of Loyola teachings with a kind heart and generous spirit. He was a loving son, brother, father and grandfather. His grandson Alexander was the apple of his eye. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his father are his daughter Jennifer Sholtis-Garfall and husband Dr. Alfred Garfall of Wallingford, PA; his sister Beverly Sheruda and husband Michael L. Sheruda of Dalton, PA; his grandson Alexander Luke Garfall; (3) nephews: Michael G. Sheruda, Matthew J. Sheruda, and Daniel R. Sheruda – all of Dalton, PA; (1) niece: Jessica M. Sheruda of Dalton, PA. He is also survived by his former wife Rose Mikolaichik of Harveys Lake, PA.

Elwood Korban, 92, of Hop Bottom, PA died Thursday morning in Commonwealth Hospice in Scranton after a brief illness. His wife is the former Edith Substenski.

Born February 20, 1922, in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Jacob and Katie (Schweitzer) Korban. Prior to his retirement, Elwood was a lifelong Diary Farmer in Hop Bottom. He was a dedicated member of Peace Lutheran Church in Scranton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Elwood was preceded in death by (3) sisters: Anna Herman, Catherine Tugend and Freda Phelps; and (6) brothers: John, Carl, Rudolph, Albert, Gus and William.

Florence Housman, 86, of Lehigh Twp., Gouldsboro, and formerly of Perth Amboy, N.J., died Tuesday afternoon at Commonwealth Hospice at Regional Hospital after an illness. She was the widow of Robert Housman.

Born April 25, 1928, in Madeira Park, British Columbia, Canada; she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Wray. Florence was employed in retail sales for many years before retirement. She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl J. Griffin, Gouldsboro; and Debra M. Trabalka and husband, Jason, Gouldsboro; a son, Robert C. Housman and wife, Patricia, Maple Glen, Pa.; a sister, Muriel Cameron, British Columbia, Canada; a brother, William Wray, British Columbia, Canada; four grandchildren, Richard, Marissa, Brenna and Brandon; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Samantha.

Therese K. Denault, of Phoenixville, Pa., wife of Russell C. Erk, mother of Nicole T. Erk and Kimberly K. Aurand, died on Sunday, June 8, at Penn Rittenhouse Hospice of acute myeloid leukemia preceded by therapy-induced myelodysplastic syndrome.

Born in Scranton, Pa., Therese graduated from North Pocono High School in 1968. She attended East Stroudsburg State College as a biology major and went on to complete a program of Cytotechnology at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. She then went on to graduate from Temple University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in 1978.

While studying at East Stroudsburg, Therese met Russ. Russ was on leave from his post as Airman First Class in the United States Air Force. The two met on a blind date and married in 1974. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon last week, on June 1, 2014, Therese and Russ celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary at home with their family.

For Therese, family and friends were the cornerstones of her life. She will be remembered by those who knew her for her rare and extraordinary heart, her kindness, her strength, her optimism and her beautiful spirit. She enveloped those around her with her loving warmth. She had a deep zest for life and a passion for learning.

Therese started her career as a cytotechnologist at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md. for one year prior to moving to the Philadelphia area. In the Philadelphia area, she continued her work for 41 years in the clinical laboratory setting. Therese thoroughly enjoyed her career in the clinical sciences.

Before retiring last year, Therese most recently served as Quality Assurance Manager for Quest Diagnostics Anatomic Pathology Department in Horsham, Pa, a position she held for many years.

Therese was preceded in death by her grandparents, Aiken and Blanche Denault of Cambridge, Mass. and Joseph and Anastasia Grab of Thornhurst, Pa.; her parents, Raymond and Lee Denault, of Thornhurst, Pa. and her brother, Christopher.

Therese is survived by her husband, Russell C. Erk; daughter, Nicole T. Erk; and daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly K. Aurand and Justin Aurand. She is also survived by brother and sister-in-law, Raymond Denault Jr. and wife, Linda of Clarks Summit, Pa. She is also survived by five sisters and their spouses, Patricia and Leonard Wincek of Thornhurst, Pa.; Pamela and Mark McCusker of Hanover, Pa.; Constance and John Sanko of Moscow, Pa.; Kimberly and Howard Kerrick of Blakeslee, Pa.; and Christine and Ken Carroll of Thornhurst, Pa. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Alice Erk, of Hawley, Pa.; her stepmother, Chyleen Denault; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and children of nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles.

A retrospective and celebration of the fascinating example of the Ethnic Immigrant, American Experience.

Helen Reilly (Elena Fedak), a former resident of Burgher Avenue, Staten Island was called to heaven on June 8th, after a peaceful respite and short illness in Brandywine Assisted Living in Howell, NJ.

Born in Warrior Run, PA a small Ukrainian/Russian speaking Orthodox Christian community in the mining country of Pennsylvania, a community reflective of the ethnic immigrant of the late 19th – early 20th century. Her early life was relatively prosperous for the family of ten, as her father, a Hungarian/Slovak was a mine-foreman who spoke English and held a responsible, position in the local mine. Unfortunately, comfort and financial security were short lived. He was killed in a mine, elevator collapse accident in 1929, when she was just 9 years old at the height of the depression. In 1929 there were no social safety nets, however, through hard work and community assistance, the family survived.

At the tender age of 15, she and her sister traveled to NYC to work as domestics while attending “continuation” school in the evening. By the beginning of WWII she had gained employment at Horn and Hardart Automat , a dining standard, that graced the city through the 1950’s. It is here that she met her husband, an Irish immigrant John Reilly, from County Fermanagh. They married in the early 40’s and raised their six daughters in Dongan Hills, which was a convenient commute for his job with the GSA of the US Government at the US Custom house, then located at Bowling Green in Manhattan. Helen also worked beside her husband, while they supplemented their income to support their large family by working at the landmark “Tavern on the Green” in New Dorp on weekends and holidays.

In the early 60’s, she went to work at the Bank of New York, in lower Manhattan, a position she held for over ten years until they moved to Moscow, Pennsylvania.

After the death of her beloved husband John, in 1982, she moved to Poughkeepsie, New York to be near her daughter Barbara. She lived in Poughkeepsie for 10 years before moving to Mt. Olive, New Jersey (near her daughter Maureen) and then to Howell, NJ.

She was also predeceased by her grand-son Philip Politio in 2001.

She is survived by her six daughters, Colleen Hartigan (Gilford, NH), Patricia Reilly (Whiting, NJ), Sheila Reilly Taylor (Sebastopol, CA), Maureen Lobello (Flanders, NJ), Cara Schwab (Staten Island, NY) and Barbara Reilly (Farmingdale, NJ), twelve grand-children and seven great grand-children.

A Funeral Mass will be held at:

Robert Edward Whitford, of Spring Brook Twp. died Monday at the Gino Merli Veterans Center in Scranton following a lengthy illness. His wife is the former Barbara Gavin.

Born in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Edward and Leona (Higgins) Whitford. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, Lackawanna College and the University of Scranton. He was an Army veteran, serving honorably in Germany during the Korean War.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 30 years as a safety / loss control engineer with Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Company.

He was past president of the Northeast section ASSE, director of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Exhausted Roosters and an avid golfer. Bob was a member of the Elmhurst Country Club, and the Fort Myers Beach Golf Club. He was a member of the Cabel Committee for Moscow Borough, and served on the variance committee for Spring Brook Township. He was a member of St. Eulalia’s Church and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus council # 6050 of Moscow.

Surviviving in addition to his wife are his son, Joseph Whitford and wife Sandra of Baltimore, MD, and Bear, DE; (4) nephews: Eugene, Thomas, John, and Joseph Hallinan; and a niece Mary Hallinan.

He was preceded in death by his sister Marjorie Hallinan.

Stephen E. Becker, 61, of Clifton Twp. PA died Sunday evening at his home after a brief illness. Born November 7, 1952 in East Orange, NJ, he is the son of the late Edward and Mary (Connors) Becker.

Stephen was a graduate of Essex Catholic High School, and attended Rutgers University.

Stephen made his career as a musician. He traveled around the world as the drummer for Southside Johnny & The Jukes. He opened for such bands as The Rolling Stones, Journey, J. Geils Band, and Led Zeppelin. In addition to headlining venues, making numerous television and radio appearances, he also owned his own recording studio that catered to the likes of major artists of the 70’s and early 80’s. Stephen also had a professional career as a telecommunications engineer for Bell Atlantic and Comcast .

Surviving are his son Stephen N. Becker of Clifton Twp. PA; his brother Harold Becker of Riegelsville, PA; his niece Kimberly Becker-Miller; and great nieces Jordan and Avery; and many cousins.

Alice R. Lane, 93, a resident at Julia Ribaudo Nursing Home in Lake Ariel died Sunday morning at Regional Hospital in Scranton following an illness. She is the widow of Leon Lane who died May 16, 2001.

Born November 27, 1920 in Elmhurst, PA, she is the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Sabaliauskas) Norvilas. She was educated in the Elmhurst schools. She was a former member of St. Eulalia’s Church in Roaring Brook Township.

Surviving are (2) daughters: Kathy Batzel and husband Norman of Lake Ariel, PA, and Charlene Hofsommer and husband Brian of Ocala, FL; (3) sons: Joseph S. Mecca and wife Nancy of Lake Tranquility, NJ, Robert L. Mecca of Pocono Lake, PA, and Donald C. Mabel Stout, 80, of Clifton Twp. died Friday evening at the Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scranton following an illness. Her husband of 50 years is Robert Stout.

Born May 4, 1934 in Clifton Twp. PA, she is the daughter of the late George and Laura (Stout) Strausser. Prior to her retirement, she was employed in the local garment Industry as a seamstress. Mabel was a member of the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughter Sandra L. Muchisky and husband Philip of Covington Twp. PA; her son George R. Sylvia M. Bendner, 73, of Clifton Twp. PA died May 16, 2014 at her home. Born April 3, 1941 in Rariton, NJ, she is the daughter of the late Henry W. and Leona (Swingle) Eibes.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed in the local garment Industry for many years. Sylvia enjoyed camping very much, and had a great love for her daughter and grandchildren.

Her family would like to thank Claire Nidoh for her special friendship and visits to Sylvia.

Irene Zacharellis Plink, 91, of Elmhurst Twp. died Thursday evening after a brief illness. Her husband Michael Plink preceded her in death on March 19, 2008 after 61 years of marriage.

Born in Scranton, PA, daughter of Christ and Mersina Zacharellis, she lived in New Haven, Connecticut, and then returned to Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Scranton Technicial High School, she devoted her life to raising her children.

Irene was a quiet, peaceful woman with a wonderful heart and smile for everyone. She was very active in her church performing in Greek plays and was one of the original founders of the Greek Food Festival associated with the Lackawanna Arts Council. She loved traveling, gardening, doing crossword puzzles, and was a lover of animals, with a special fondness for dogs. She was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre.

Surviving are her daughter Christine Plink, with whom she resided, her son Alexander Plink and wife Karen; and two grandchildren Michael of Philadelphia, and Alicia of Stroudsburg.

She was preceded in death by her brother Atty. William Zacharellis.

Amelia Bonitz Roth of Covington Township died Friday morning at home with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Roth.

Born on January 1, 1915 on Elm Street in Scranton she was proud of the fact that she was a New Year’s Day baby. Grandma, as she was affectionately referred to by so many, believed that being the first child born in a new year was a symbol of good fortune. The fact that she lived 99 years and left this earth with all of her facilities is a great testimony to the folklore.

“Grandma” was most comfortable when she was in her home tending to her family. She was particularly proud of the fact that her husband built their home on land that her parents gave to them; a tradition that has been passed down for two generations. She was a lifelong member of the Daleville United Methodist Church. Canning was one of her favorite hobbies, especially making and preparing our annual sauerkraut. She loved to knit and was an avid reader of Christian literature. Max Lucado was one of her favorite authors. When she was not reading she could usually be found searching the television stations for her beloved “Gaithers Family Gospel Hour”. She truly enjoyed gospel music. She was keen to world events and willing to share her many years of knowledge with those who were interested.

She is also preceded in death by her sons Charles and Leonard Roth; sister, Wilhelmina Bonitz Ames; son in-laws, Lloyd McLain and Coy Adcock; daughter in-laws, Debbie and Kay Roth; and granddaughter, Christine Adcock. She is survived by daughters, Betty McLain, Renee Meade and Carol Adcock; grandchildren, Kipp Adcock, Todd McLain, Heather Martin, Timothy Meade, Kristy Jarrett, Dylan Jarrett, Tonya Klassner and Jason Roth. Great-grandchildren, Amanda Harlan; Krystal and Makayla McLain; Matthew and Marissa Maurer; William Fergusen; Zachary Zurcher; Steven and Madalyn Klassner and Jace Martinez. Also her beloved niece, Caroline Ames Fritz.

Our family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the folks at Sacred Heart Hospice. The nursing staff treated Grandma and our entire family with kindness, comfort, love and compassion. She enjoyed the time she had spent with the nurses and the many smiles that were bestowed upon her.

Rev. William Keith Locker, of Mobile, AL, and Stuart Fl, Lake Ariel, PA and formerly of Mohnton, PA died Wednesday at his home following an illness. His wife is the former Juanita (Jay) Fletcher. The couple were married July 19, 1958 by the Rev. George Goodwin.

Born April 30, 1935 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Elmer and Isa Vesta (Longaker) Locker. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and the Wesley Theological Seminary, and the University of Scranton.

Rev Locker served as a US Army veteran serving from 1957 to 1959. He worked in the food wholesale business for 20 years prior to his ministry. Prior to ordination, he served as a Lay Leader in the Reading District for the United Methodist Churches. Rev. Locker served several churches in the Wyoming conference including Lake Ariel charge, Myrtle Street United Methodist Church, Dana Street United Methodist Church, Wyoming United Methodist Church and Lake Winola United Methodist Church. He retired from full time ministry in 1999, but continued to serve as pastor to senior/adult ministries in Honesdale, PA, Stuart, FL and Jensen Beach, FL.

Rev. Locker was Secretary, President and District Governor in 14 P Lions International. While a member of the Mohnton Lions Club, he was instrumental in establishing a medical facility with physician services. Rev. Locker was a lifelong member of the Penn State Alumni Association holding season tickets at Penn State for 40 years.

He had three loves in his life – the church, his wife and Penn State football – and the order all depended on the season of the year.

Howard M. Soderstrom, 88, a resident of the Dunmore Health Care Center; and formerly of Scranton Manor died Wednesday following an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Calhan Soderstrom on August 16, 2010.

Born November 8, 1925 in Columbia, MO, he is the son of the late E.A. and Helen (Morse) Soderstrom.

Howard was a World War II Army veteran serving with the 69th Infantry Division, and was awarded two bronze star medals. He was later assigned to the Adjutant General Section Main Command in Berlin. He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Missouri; and later was employed as a credit manager with Wilson Sporting Goods and Texaco until his retirement in 1985. Howard was a member of Delta Sigma Pi, professional business fraternity. Prior to moving to Scranton, he lived in Cherry Hill, NJ.

Surviving are two daughters and five grandchildren.

Martha B.”Marty” Jones, 61, of Dickson City, PA died early Sunday morning at the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger/CMC in Scranton following a sudden illness comforted by a loving group of family and friends.

Born in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harold W. “Sam” Jones and Ethel Rae (Mitchinson) Jones who died September 8, 2013. Martha was a 1970 graduate of Scranton Central High School, and a graduate of Bloomsburg University. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Harper Collins Publishers for over 30 years.

Martha was a woman of strong faith who kept Jesus in her heart. She attended Blakely Primitive Methodist Church. She was a loyal New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan. Martha cherished the times shared with family and friends, and was a loving caregiver to her mother. Marty was very creative and talented with a wonderful sense of humor. She had a heart of gold, and a very generous and caring spirit. She was willing to do anything for others, while asking nothing in return. She will be greatly missed, but our memories will always last. She was the best daughter any parents could ask for, the best friend and sister a brother could have, and the best companion any dog could have.

Lawrence W. Bloom, 78, of Scranton died Tuesday evening in the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger/CMC following an illness. His wife is the Former Martha Palmiter. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage in April.

Born February 21, 1936 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Harriett Bloom. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Chamberlain Manufacturing of Scranton as a machine operator. He was a member of Mary, Mother of God Parish – Holy Rosary Church of Scranton.

Lawrence was an avid fisherman and bowler and participated in several bowling leagues. He enjoyed camping with his wife and children; and trips to Atlantic City. He was known as a very hard worker and a tremendous “Man of Faith”. He will be dearly missed by his loving family.

Arlene D. O’Hara, of Scranton died Friday evening following a brief illness. She is the widow of John F. O’Hara who died June 15, 2004. Born June 25, 1942 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Raymond and Catherine (Gaffney) Devereaux.

Arlene is a 1960 graduate of Scranton Central High School and 1964 graduate of Carnegie Tech University in Pittsburgh, PA. She received a Masters degree in Education from the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a home economics teacher in the Coatesville Area School District.

Arlene was a board member of the Lackawanna County Historical Society and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic. She is a past president of the Lake Waynewood Association and was a former member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Asbury United Methodist Church in Scranton. She was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Woman’s Fraternity.

Arlene was a loving sister and a loyal friend who enjoyed monthly dinners out with her high school girlfriends. Her summers at the “lake” were times she treasured and she held her “lake” family close. She was well known for her script writing and costume design for the Sandy Beach shows at the lake.

Helen P. Marcinkevich, 71, of Gouldsboro died Friday at Geisinger/CMC in Scranton following a lengthy illness. She was the wife and life partner of Peter P. Marcinkevich . Born March 7, 1943 in Lakeville, PA, she is the daughter of the late William and Gladys (Cox) Loveless. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a cook in several area restaurants.

Helen was an avid gardener, and enjoyed crafting very much. She was a talented wood burner and is remembered for sending a “Princess Diana” rendering to Prince William on the occasion of his wedding. It was received by the Prince with an official thank you from Buckingham Palace. Helen enjoyed camping and was an official greeter at Promise Land State Park for 13 years. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Ruth A. Trotz, 99, a resident of Dunmore Health Care Center and formerly of Scranton died Saturday following an illness.

Born May 13, 1914 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late John and Anna (Bulda) Trotz.

Ruth was educated in the Scranton schools and was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton. Ruth was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid Society. Prior to her retirement, Ruth was employed by Gertrude Hawk Chocolate Company and had previously been employed by the Green Ridge Bakery of Scranton for many years.

Ruth was a talented cake and confection designer who was sought out by many for her special skills.

Surviving are her brother Edward E. Trotz of Towson, MD; a sister: Edna Kopka of Orlando, FL; and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alma Shreiber and Helen Peters; and a brother, John Trotz.

James J. LaRose (Jimmy), 78, of Scranton, was taken to be with our Lord Monday evening, April 21, 2014. He is survived by his wife, companion and best friend, Candice Evans.

Born October 2, 1935 in Newton PA, he is the son of the late Archie and Myrtle (Williams) LaRose.

He graduated from Scranton Technical High School in 1953, and served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1957. Prior to his retirement in 1988, Jimmy was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot as a Communications Equipment Operations Supervisor.

Jimmy enjoyed living life to the fullest and had an amazing capacity to connect with people. He enjoyed his neighbors and spent countless hours “porch hopping.” He also enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and telling jokes. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and had a great knowledge of sports stories and trivia. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Lois J. Salwin, 86, a resident of Allied Skilled Nursing in Scranton died Tuesday afternoon following an illness. She is the widow of Alfred Salwin. Born September 3, 1927 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Thomas and Louise (Whittaker) Phillips.

She was educated in the Scranton schools, and was of the Methodist faith.

Florence M. Shruba of North Scranton died Monday afternoon in the Green Ridge Health Care center where she was a guest following an illness. She is the widow of Richard A. Shruba Sr. who died on November 1, 2001.

Born January 15, 1920 in Moosic, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ignatius and Felicia (Androwski) Plocha. She is a graduate of Moosic High School. Florence was baptized and confirmed in the Polish National Church, and married her husband in 1955. She then joined her husband’s church Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society, and the Pair and Spare Club.

During World War II, she was a Red Cross Volunteer at Scranton State Hospital and Moses Taylor Hospital. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Parker Textiles and Jaunty Textiles. She was a member of the West Side Seniors and The Roundwoods Social Club.

Surviving are her son Richard A. Shruba of Scranton, PA; her nephew Stephen Plocha of Moosic, who was always more a son than a nephew; her niece Barbara Burda; and several other nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers Stephen and Edward Plocha, her sisters, Jean Plocha and Eleanor Comonie and her God Child Bonnie Comonie-Gallea.

Maryann White, of Scranton, died Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Hospice in Scranton following an illness. Her husband is James W. White. The couple celebrated 55 years of marriage on April 4th. Born November 16, 1938 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late James and Janet (Lee) Caswell.

Maryann was a member of the former Providence United Methodist Church and attended the Asbury United Methodist Church Scranton.

Charles J. Williams Sr., of Scranton, died Monday evening in Mountain View Care Center in Scranton following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Dorothy Hedglin on January 23, 2002. Born March 18, 1935 in Kingston, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Carpenter) Williams.

He was a US Air Force veteran. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a welder with the Elliott Company of Scranton. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Charles was of the Catholic faith.

Catherine Sheridan Longo, lovingly known as Kitty entered this world on August 29th, 1944, the oldest child of the late John and Adele Sheridan, and was welcomed into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ unexpectedly early Sunday morning, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and graduated Catherine McCauley High School. Kitty lived much of her life in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn and later turned a stately Pennsylvania summer home into a permanent residence in the late 1980’s. Along with her family, she lived in a landmark home in Honesdale for the remainder of her life. She called it “Her Mountain” . When her children were young she spent her time as an unpaid domestic engineer, famous neighborhood baker, and volunteered, teaching reading and special needs children at PS 193. Through the years she worked as a census taker, insurance inspector, secretary at the Bethany United Methodist Church as well as a very talented portrait studio photographer.

Kitty was a kind, strong-willed woman with a witty sense of humor and a giving heart. She enjoyed camping, traveling and baking as well as had a love for adventuring the ocean and bays on her beloved boat “The Berry Patch” and casting her reel out to catch sharks, blue gills, flounder and whatever else got tangled in her lines. She was an avid lover of all things train and railroad, a love which she passed on to her grandkids in a unique way- ” chasing the train” through Honesdale when they were young. She loved cooking and baking- homemade was always best! Kitty’s love of art, painting, sketching needlework and crafting was evident in every gift she gave was either handmade or a project or kitchen appliance. She had extensive collections of tins, geodes and rocks, Crayola memorabilia, and all things blue. An avid animal lover, she adopted many animals in need from the local shelter including her best buddies, Blue and Shadow . A game of Scrabble was a welcome event in her house and “Franklin” her word game was never far away. On many a summer night , Kitty could be seen enjoying live music at Central Park, her love of music was a lifelong passion. Her radio was always on and she looked forward to the warm weather and concerts in the park. Kitty loved volunteering and supporting youth programs and other causes she believed in, she would always help any person, child or animal in need.

The only thing Kitty loved more than being a mother was being a grandmother, her grandchildren brought her more joy than a heart could hold and they stayed by her side until her very last breath. She loved bragging about them and watching them play sports, participate in activities and tell them how smart and special they are. She enjoyed early morning snack raids and rides in the car with the kids, watching them play in the yard and drawing with chalk and bubbles. The best thing about Granny’s house was always getting a treat and a kiss and standing at the wall to get measured. Many years of pencil lines measured the growth of a family and a life well lived. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by an Aunt Hazel Cangley, great nephew Anthony Rachun, and many aunts and uncles. Surviving is her adored companion Gene D. Bacorn of Green Ridge, Scranton , daughter -Misty Longo-Losavich and husband Kevin, their children Kevin II age 11 and Nicholas age 9, daughter Lacey Longo-Jannetti and fiancé Jason Pfister and their children Will age 15, Christopher age 15, Caitlyn Marie age 12, and Carmine age 11.A son Robert Giangrande and children Robert, Adelia and Mary and a son Joseph Giangrande and wife Tracy and their children John and Jenna. Also surviving are a brother John J. Sheridan Jr. and wife Iwona of Calgary, Alberta Canada , Sister Jane Sheridan-Auditore and husband John, of Long Island,NY, a sister Susan Sheridan-Czarnecki and husband George of Brooklyn ,NY,. Surviving also are many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and multiple generations of cousins. She will be missed by many friends from both near and far, all over the world. Kitty was considered a second mom by many and had much “adopted family”, everywhere she went, Kitty was loved and recognized.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Stephen Charles Newberry, 25, of Palm Coast, FL will be held on Tuesday, April 8 at 12pm at Green Ridge Assembly of God Church. The service will begin at 2 pm. Interment will take place at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst, PA after the service.

Stephen passed away after a tragic accident on March 29, 2014. He was born on May 20, 1988 in Toms River, NJ. Stephen served in the Minnesota National Guard. He was a full-time student attending AWC International School of Ministry. He enjoyed baking, hanging out with his friends and was a talented artist who recently wrote a song. Stephen was a devout, loving and giving man who will always be remembered for his “Giant Bear Hugs”. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Alexander Frantz, 81, of Gouldsboro, PA and formerly of Bordentown, NJ died Monday afternoon in Commonwealth Hospice at Regional Hospital in Scranton following an illness. His wife of 56 years is the former Naomi Roberts.

Born July 4, 1932 in Trenton, NJ, he is the son of the late Anthony and Rose Frantzkiewicz. He was a US Air Force veteran, serving from 1951 till 1955 in active duty.

Mr. Frantz was an employee of the Trenton Pottery Company, and General Motors, prior to his 40 year career as a Driver and Salesman with the Wonder Bread Company. Mr. Frantz was an active member of the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church in Gouldsboro, PA.

Surviving in addition to his wife are (2) daughters: Lori Russell and husband Jeffrey; and Linda Montgomery and husband Tim; (5) grandchildren: Kyle and Christopher Russell; and Joshua, Matthew and Rebecca Montgomery.

Mr. Frantz considered his son-In-laws as his own sons, and his grandchildren gave him great pride and joy. He will be dearly missed by his loving family.

Marion Williams, 76, of Clifton Twp. died Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Hospice at Regional Hospital in Scranton following an illness. She is the widow of Robert Williams who died in 2004.

Born September 22, 1937 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late William and Mildred (Hughes) Tassey. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Teachers Aid with Keystone Community Resources and the North Pocono School District.

Marion was a member of the Marine Corps League Woman’s Auxiliary in Scranton.

Surviving are her son David M. Schyna Jr. and wife Tammy of Clifton Twp. PA; her daughter: Sharon M. Edward Olszewski, 98, of Gouldsboro and formerly of Sayreville, NJ died Saturday morning in St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home where he was a resident. His wife of 70 years, the former Julia Krolick died December 15, 2011. Born January 23, 1916 in Dickson City, PA, he is the son of the late Bronislaw and Mary (Szyonankiewicz) Olszewski.

Edward was an World War II Army veteran serving with the 302nd Engineer Battalion. He participated in the Central Pacific Theatre of War and received the Purple Heart Award while in combat and the American Legion Silver Star Citation for his service to our country.

Prior to moving to Gouldsboro in 2006, Edward was a resident of Sayreville, NJ where is was the Owner and operator of Olszewski Carpet & Siding for 60 years. He previously resided in Harrison, NJ prior to moving to Sayreville, NJ. He was a member of the VFW post of Sayreville, NJ and attended St. Rita’s Church in Gouldsboro and St. Catherine of Siena Church of Moscow.

Surviving are (2) sons: Robert Olszewski and companion Edith Zurcher of White Haven, PA; Joseph Olszewski and wife Nancy of Gouldsboro, PA; (4) grandchildren: Robert Olszewski and wife Madeline, Lisa Grieco and husband Brian, Joy Dua and husband Nick, and Daniel Smith; and (1) great-grandson Michael Grieco.

Mary Barbiere, a resident of St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home in Elmhurst and formerly of Old Forge, died Thursday afternoon at St. Mary’s Villa. She is the widow of Nicholas Barbiere who died November 23, 1992.

Born in Taylor, PA, she is the daughter of the late Harry and Susan (Sliviak) Markovitch. Mary was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Church and Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.

Mary’s grandchildren and great-granchildren were the love of her life. She enjoyed spending time with them and hearing all about their lives.

Mary’s family would like to thank the dedicated and caring nurses and aids at St. Mary’s Villa for their excellent care. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Born May 13, 1930 in Slovakia, she is the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Sestak. Prior to her retirement, she was employed in the local garment Industry as a seamstress . She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Scranton.

Ann Edwards, 85, of Moscow and formerly of Daytona Beach Florida died Thursday evening at her home following an illness. She was the widow of Paul Edwards who died in 1987.

Born July 11, 1928 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late David and Ann (Needham) Fox. Prior to her retirement Ann was employed by Gertrude Hawk Chocolates of Dunmore, PA. Ann was a member of the Moscow United Methodist Church.

Vincent A. “Billy” Fornaszewski Jr., 77, of North Scranton died March 9th at the Villages Regional Hospital in Lady Lake, FL. Born April 1, 1936 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Vincent A. and Emelia (Kowalczyk) Fornaszewski . He was educated in the Scranton public schools and was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Orion.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton and the American Legion post of Troop, PA. Prior to his retirement Billy was employed by Sun Manufacturing Modular Homes.

Billy was an avid sports fan, and devoted Pittsburgh Steelers and NASCAR fan. He was known for his quick wit and rapid one liners. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are (2) sisters: Irene Fornaszewski of Scranton, PA, and Frieda Hanselman and husband Robert of Jefferson Township; his nephew Randy Fornaszewski and wife Adirce of Scranton, PA and great nieces and nephews.

Maria G. Gulla, 85, of Largo, Florida, formerly of Gouldsboro, passed away on Friday, November 29, surrounded by family at the home of her daughter in Spring Brook Twp. Her husband, Anthony S. Gulla died April 26, 1985. Born in Buchendorf, Germany on March 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Josef and Maria (Liesly) Geppert.

Maria was a woman of substance, with impeccable taste and an unmatched sense of style. She knew what she liked and was not afraid to speak her mind. She enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the U.S. and was dearly fond of her Florida home and neighborhood. She loved the warm weather and could often be found enjoying it in her yard. Not only was she the heart of her family, she was a consummate survivor and provider. Maria especially enjoyed a good cup of very hot tea.

Surviving are five daughters, Irene Suhow, Pittston; Betty Evans Hudak (Ed), Stroudsburg; Catherine Dunnigan, Pocono Summit; Tony Maria Rollison (David), Spring Brook Twp; and Dolores “Dee” Winans (Joseph), Theodore, AL; grandchildren, Christian Evans, Jason Evans (Andrea), Michael Grugnale (Jackie), Zachary, Jacob and Sarah Rollison, Jennifer McGonagle and Andrew Winans; great grandchildren, Katelyn and Victoria Grugnale, Hallie, Jonathon and Ryan McGonagle, Zackary and Spencer Winans, and four-month-old Lucas D. Evans, in whom she found much joy and delight. Also surviving are her sister, Hedel Heidmeier, Stadthagen, Germany; sister-in-law, Gunda Geppert, Bad Nenndorf, Germany; Irmengard Horning, Munich, Germany; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Babilino, NJ; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins; her beloved friends including John and Lily Florendo, Nevada; John and Joan Flynn, NC; David and Shizuko Fragale, Florence Strossner, Helen Knowles and John Wickham, all of Florida, and many others.

Scranton native, Iona M Benjamin (nee Townsend), died March 4, 2014 at her home in Lebanon, PA.

Mrs. Benjamin was born March 21, 1930 to Jennie Thelma Walter and Charles Townsend. She attended the John Adams School and North Scranton Junior High and at the age of 17 she married WWII veteran Seymour Benjamin to whom she was married for 49 years. She worked as a seamstress, was a member of the International Ladies Garment Worker’s Union. She and her family lived primarily in Scranton, eventually settling in Lebanon, PA where she resided for the last 28 years of her life.

Known as Gramma and later Nona, she was most recognized for being a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A steadfast homemaker, she greeted every guest with a vigilant hospitality. Refusal of her dotage was a futile endeavor, and nary a soul left her home hungry, nor spent a night without tightly tucked clean sheets and several pillows. She drew great joy in building crafts and hand-sewn clothing, which she gifted to her family and loved ones.

Iona is survived by her 3 daughters: Darlene Barrett, Iona “Peaches” Facciponti, and Valerie Ventre: 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sisters; Helen, Marilyn, and Carolyn and brothers; Norman, Charles, John and Eddie.

Theodore W. “Doug” Kohn, 93, of Gouldsboro, PA died Monday evening at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home in Elmhurst Twp. PA, where he was a guest, following an illness. His wife is the former Shirley Crooks. The couple celebrated 68 years of marriage on June 15th, 2013. Born August 16, 1920 in Gouldsboro, PA, he is the son of the late Douglas and Mary (Glockler) Kohn.

He was a graduate of Tobyhanna High School and was a US Army veteran serving during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a supervisor at Tobyhanna Army Depot in Tobyhanna, PA.

Doug was a member of the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church, Moscow Lodge # 504 of Moscow and the Gouldsboro Lions Club. He was an avid bowler and participated in bowling leagues at Country Lanes in Elmhust for many years.

Sandra Marie Bigness Reynolds, age 66, died at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on Monday, March 3, 2014 of complications with renal disease.

Born November 7, 1947, in Malone, New York, she is the daughter of the late Howard and Hazel (Gardner) Bigness. She lived in Malone, New York until 1980 then moving to Quakertown, Pennsylvania before settling in Newfoundland, Pennsylvania. She worked as a dental assistant and child care teacher’s aid in Quakertown before becoming disabled with Renal Disease. Sandra was of the Roman Catholic faith. She enjoyed crocheting, love of cats and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her longtime companion, John W. Gabel. Three children and a daughter-in-law; James A. & Jennifer L. Reynolds, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, Howard J. Reynolds of Monks Corner, South Carolina, and Tina M. Reynolds of Newfoundland, Pennsylvania. Four Grandchildren, Jacob A. Reynolds, Darryk G. Reynolds, Chyann S. Reynolds and Jeremy P. Kremer.

Marjorie K. Huber, a resident of Crosslands Community, Kennett Square and Lake Waynewood, formerly of Scranton, died Tuesday evening. She was married for 39 years to Dr. Richard L. Huber, who preceded her death in 1986. They had 5 children: Richard L. Huber, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, who preceded her death this January, Chris Anderson (Bob), Zebulon, NC, Jim Huber (Linda), Rilo Rico, AZ, Susan Bisignani (Bob), Moscow, PA, and Laura Liberty (Joe), Schwenksville, PA. She had 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her companion of 14 years, Dr. Richard C. Rushmore, Kennett Square, formerly of Scranton.

Born December 6, 1926 in Clarks Summit, daughter of Everett and Ruth Singer Keen, she was a graduate of Kingston High School and Moses Taylor School of Nursing. She was an RN at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton and Doctors Hospital, Philadelphia, as well as a private duty nurse. She worked many years in the offices of Drs. Huber and Rushmore. As a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church she served as a trustee and elder, filling roles including clerk of session and chair of personnel. She served on the Presbytery Committee on Ministry and was elected as a Commissioner to the General Assembly in Atlanta. She frequently attended Synod School at Wilson College. She was a member of the Century Club, Lackawanna County Medical Society Alliance, and Moses Taylor Nurses Alumni Association. She participated in the Harvard Medical School Nurses Study for over 30 years. She was fortunate to belong the Lake Waynewood Community for 57 years, where she enjoyed the company of friends and family, her daylily garden, and morning walks.

Verna (Mabel) Bentler Scott, 91, of Gouldsboro, PA died Wednesday morning in the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger-CMC in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Scott in 1967. Born April 9, 1922 in Gouldsboro, PA, she is the daughter of the late August and Anna M.( Christie) Bentler.

She was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group and attended the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church.

Surviving are (3) daughters: Marjorie Boruta of Gouldsboro, Lucille Wombacker of Scranton, PA, and Rachel Gress of Moscow, PA; (2) sons: Earl Scott and companion Judy Czachor of Madison Twp. Ruth H. Wilde, 85, of Landisville, PA and formerly of Roaring Brook Twp. and Laurel Run borough died Sunday in Lancashire Hall in Lancaster, PA following a lengthy illness. Her husband is James J. Wilde. The couple celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 1, 2013. Born November 9, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she is the daughter of the late Robert and Ruth (May) Evans.

Ruth is a 1947 graduate of Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre and prior to her marriage was employed by Acme Markets. She was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wilkes-Barre. She was an active member of the Moscow Women’s Club and the Welcome Wagon. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and playing bridge. Ruth worked directly with Congressman Daniel Flood during the Laurel Run Mine Fire Reclamation in the Mid1960’s.

Magdy F. Ayad, 63, died Saturday evening in the Emergency Room at Geisinger- CMC in Scranton after beiing stricken ill at his home. His wife is Mervet Abdou.

Born September 23, 1950 in ElFayoum, Egypt, he is the son of the late Fawzy and Sania Ayad. He and his wife are the Owners and Operators of M & M Cleaning Co. of Scranton, PA.

Magdy was a member of St. Ann’s Maronite Church in Scranton, PA.

Surviving in addition to his wife are (2) daughters: Jina Ayad of Scranton, PA, and Nermin Moses and husband Ray of Newfoundland, PA; (1) son: Rami Ayad of Scranton, PA ; (3) brothers Boshra Fawzy, Alfons Fawzy and Adel Fawzy; and (3) sisters: Nadia Fawzy, Arnest Fawzy and Meme Fawzy – all of Egypt.

Magdy was known for his kindness and devotion to his friends and especially his family. His journey to America included relocating several times, along with many hardships and sacrifices. His dream was fulfilled when he gained his American citizenship along with his family. He touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with. He was the best husband, father, uncle and friend anyone could possibly ask for. He will be deeply missed by his adoring family, friends and his dog Lucky.

George J. Archibald, 90, of Scranton died Saturday morning at Geisinger/CMC following an illness. His wife was the former Agnes (Baransky) Archibald who died December 20, 2005. Born March 14, 1923 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Adolph and Mary (Munski) Archibald. He was a US Navy veteran serving during World War II.

He was a graduate of Johnson School of Technology, and attended Penn State University. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Trane Corporation as a Tool and Die Foreman.

George was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton and served with the Braille workers of the church; and was a trustee with the church cemetery. He was a member of the Dickson City American Legion and a member of the Abington Senior Center.

George had many interests in life that included playing the acordian and the organ. He was an expert carpenter and took great pride in his gardening skills. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed hunting, and playing pool as well. George did crossword puzzles daily and cherished the fishing trips he took with his sons to Canada.

He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Born November 12, 1957 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Saar) Krisovitch. Beth grew up in Hamlin, PA, and was a graduate of Western Wayne High School.

She was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at Tobyhanna State Park. She was a member of Light of Christ Church in Jefferson Twp. PA.

Born in Elizabeth City, NC on June 18, 1931, she is the daughter of the late Charlie and Minnie Hines. She was a resident of New York City for over 50 years prior to moving to Pennsylvania. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the US Postal Service. She was a member of the Light of the World Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, NC.

Kenneth A. Anderson, 64, of Madison Twp. PA died Monday, February 17, 2014. His wife, the former Beth A. Krisovitch died February 21, 2014. Born August 21, 1949 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Archie and Mary (Rocella) Anderson.

He grew up in Madison Township and was a graduate of North Pocono High School. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Surviving is his daughter Tina M. Walter J. “Dutch” Gasper, 61, of Scranton and Lake Winola died peacefully Wednesday in the VNA Hospice unit at Geisinger/CMC following an illness. His wife is the former Regina M. DeCrescenza.

Born April 20, 1952 in Scranton, PA , he is the son of the late Joseph and Ethel (Nimsbley) Gasper. He was a US Army veteran and served with the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Dutch was a graduate of Lackawanna Junior College and was featured in “Who’s Who” in 1982 for his academic achievements. Prior to his illness he was employed with McGregor Iron Works of Clarks Summit, PA. He was an avid pool player, and was a member of the Scranton pool league, winning several tournaments.

Dutch always looked on the bright side of life, and never dwelled on things he could change. His proudest moments were spent with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his son Adam Gasper and wife April; (3) daughters: Leila E. Roman and husband Nicholas of Scranton, Marie I. Burns and husband Billy of Carbondale, and Annie Z. Gasper and fiancee Michael Mitchell of Scranton; (2) brothers: Joseph Gasper and wife Debbie of Scranton, and Michael Gasper of California; and (6) grandchildren: Emily, Autumn, Corbin, Liliana, Alessia, and Savannah,; and nieces and nephews.

Josephine Biefeldt, 88, of Nicholson and formerly of Moscow died Saturday morning at her home following an illness. She is the widow of Raymond H. Biefeldt who died November 15, 1995.

Born August 30, 1925 in Dunmore, PA, she is the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Beebe) Jackson. She was educated in the Dunmore schools and prior to her retirement was employed by Rita’s Sportswear of Moscow, PA.

Josephine was an auxiliary member of American Legion post 579 in Moscow and was of the Protestant faith. Surviving are her daughter Linda S. Ames and companion Joseph Carnathan of Nicholson, PA; her granddaughter Christina Rosiak of Davenport, FL; and (2) great-grandchildren Christopher Lee Rosiak and Nikki Jean Rosiak and several nieces and nephews.

Robert H. (Bob) Davis, 86, of Madison Township, PA, died Friday afternoon, January 31st, at Regional Hospital in Scranton following a lengthy illness. Born June 13, 1927 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Hosie and Mildred (Evans) Davis of Scranton/Elmhurst.

Bob was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and worked for US Textile and Protection Services Inc. of Scranton before retiring in 1993.

Bob was loved deeply by his family and many, many friends. He was quick witted and his joking manner always brought a smile to your face. He loved to play harmonica, sing, and tell jokes. He was a skilled carpenter and one of his hobbies was making intricate wood projects. He loved his grand-children and great-grand children dearly and always mentioned them in conversation.

The family would like to thank the 5th floor skilled nursing unit “Spirit of Mercy” for their loving care and compassion.

Janet M. Seccolish Conlon, 61, of Scranton died Wednesday morning in Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA at Regional Hospital of Scranton following a lengthy illness. Born September 27, 1952 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Martin J. and Louise (Lynch) Secoolish.

Janet was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. She was a former member of the Green Ridge Assembly of God and the Peckville Assembly of God.

Janet was a beautiful person inside and out. She was the most loving, sweet mother. She was a kind Christian woman with a very compassionate heart.

Henrietta E. Musgrave, 83, of Jefferson Twp., died Sunday morning at home, following an extended illness. She was the wife of William A. Musgrave. The couple married Nov. 28, 1953.

Born March 9, 1930, in Moscow, daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Mecke) Bird, Henrietta was a longtime member of Hollisterville United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are a daughter, Beverly Domm and husband, John, Madison Twp.; two sons, Ronald H. Musgrave and wife, Millie, Madison Twp.; and Richard A. Musgrave and wife, Karen, Madison Twp.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, George Bird; and a son, William G. Musgrave, in 1998.

John E. Kashetta, 75, of Lenoxville, died Saturday while a patient at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He and his wife, the former Helen Jean Huegel, formerly of Scranton, would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in August.

Born in Eynon, son of Edward and Delores Kashetta, he later resided in Scranton until retirement in 1997. He was educated in Scranton public schools until enlisting in the Army. He was employed in his early years at Ronson Metals, New Jersey, and later, for more than 43 years, with the state Department of Transportation, where he held many roles, including road foreman, a title he held until retirement.

John was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, and a true friend in times of need. An avid woodworker, he built anything and everything, and took pride in all he did. He was a tireless worker, who instilled virtue in his children. His greatest joy was living out his retirement in Lenoxville, where he could enjoy the outdoors, countryside and wildlife that he befriended. He loved his property and took care of many deer herds that visited him daily, along with his chickens, of which he took great pride. His pets were his family, too. The cat, Bentley, and dog, Shyla, were always somewhere near.

The family would like to thank the staff and physicians at Geisinger CMC, who became like extended family, during his hospitalization. Gratitude also goes out to Drs. Stahl and Stivala for their tireless, dedicated and endless pursuit to his care until his passing.

Also surviving are two brothers, Michael and Joseph Kashetta, Scranton; a sister, Ruth Malinoski, Scranton; daughters, Patricia Longo, Dickson City; and Deborah Jean Kashetta, Clarks Summit; grandchildren, Courtney Lynn, Lenoxville; Brittany Rukse, Clarks Summit; Jaqueline, Longo, Dickson City; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Janet Derosier; and two infant children, Barbara Jean Kashetta and Edward John Kashetta.

Suzanne Brown, 70, a resident of Allied Skilled Nursing in Scranton and formerly of Philadelphia died Friday evening at Allied Skilled Nursing following an illness. Born February 21, 1943 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late William C. Miles and Mary B. (Davis) Miles Scott.

Suzanne spent the last 35 years of her life at Rudolphy Home for the Blind in Philadelphia. She was a member and former secretary for the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind – Philadelphia chapter. Suzanne was also a member of the University Lutheran of the Incarnation Church in Philadelphia and attended Trinity Baptist Church in Scranton. She taught piano and sang with the Nevelairs Choral Society of Philadelphia for many years.

Surviving are (5) sisters: Joan L. Miles of Scranton, Eleanore L. Mizenko and husband Edward of Tunkhannock, Marilyn Jenkins of Scranton, Jacquelyn A. Hnatko and husband Theodore of Covington Twp. Charles M. Vishnesky, 91, died Wednesday at home. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Theresa Tripus Vishnesky.

Born Jan. 17, 1922, he was a World War II veteran. He served in the Navy, training on the USS Constellation, serving as a gunner on the USS Bingham and transporting troops to the Pacific.

Charles was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing and raising champion German short-haired pointers. He was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot for 32 years before his retirement. He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church and Council 6050, Knights of Columbus, Moscow. He was employed by St. Catherine’s for 18 years.

He loved all sports, especially his team, the Phillies. He was also a regular at the “Downs” on Friday nights.

Also surviving are four daughters, Carol Edwards and husband George, Moscow; Charlene Fick and husband, Arthur, Spring Brook Twp.; Therese Greenfield, West Virginia; and Patricia Lenzer and husband, Robert, Schnecksville; seven grandchildren, George Edwards, Karen Fick Fixler, Arthur and Kacie Fick and Justin, Christiana and Angelina Lenzer; two great-granddaughters, Paisley and Isla Fixler; and two sisters, Helen Dechelle and Agnes Ognosky, both of Sandford, Fla.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Denise Lynn Edwards.

A Memorial Mass is scheduled for:

Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Church Street, Moscow, Pa; with military honors to follow.

Dorrance E. “Butchie” Field Jr., 66, of Moscow died Thursday morning in Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA at Regional Hospital in Scranton following an illness.

Born February 7, 1947 in Scranton, he is the son of Kathryn (Van Brunt) Field of Moscow and the late Dorrance E. Field Sr. He was a member of the Moscow United Methodist Church in Moscow.

Butchie loved people very much, and was known for his laughter and love of life. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones.

Surviving in addition to his mother, are his sister Mary Davis and husband Robert of Scranton.

He was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Field.

Marjorie E. Loughman, 68, of Dickson City and formerly of Scranton died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 in Commonwealth Hospice at Regional Hospital in Scranton. Born August 15, 1945 in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late Arthur and Marion (Slack) Knauer.

Marjorie is a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and attended Philadelphia College of Bible. She was a life long member of Grace Bible Church of Dunmore. Marjorie was employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant and performed private duty nursing.

Marjorie was a loving mother, grandmother sister,and friend. Her faith was drawn from the holy scripture, and provided strength and inspiration to fortify her life journey. The foundation of her journey is written in John: 3-3 “Truly, Truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

Surviving are (3) daughters: Colleen Loughman of Scranton, PA, Tammy A. Robson of Dunmore PA, Stacey A. Pesaturo and husband Armando of Lighthouse Point, FL; (1) sister: Judith Armbruster and husband Albert of Dresher, PA; grandchildren, Kiersten and Shane Robson, Mckayla and Kaden Pesaturo; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Saturday, January 11th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Bible Church, 130 University Drive Dunmore, PA with Rev. Terrry Ribble, Pastor, as officiating clergy.
